HTTP Strict Transport Security (HSTS) Aug 9, 2023 15:00-16:00 UTC
Update - HTTP Strict Transport Security (HSTS)

As part of our ongoing commitment to strengthening our security measures, we are pleased to announce that over the coming months IcePortal will be moving to HTTP Strict Transport Security (HSTS) compliance in order to improve our security and the security of our customers.

From Wikipedia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HTTP_Strict_Transport_Security)

HTTP Strict Transport Security (HSTS) is a policy mechanism that helps to protect websites against man-in-the-middle attacks such as protocol downgrade attacks[1] and cookie hijacking. It allows web servers to declare that web browsers (or other complying user agents) should automatically interact with it using only HTTPS connections, which provide Transport Layer Security (TLS/SSL), unlike the insecure HTTP used alone. HSTS is an IETF standards track protocol and is specified in RFC 6797.

Key Changes to Expect
• HTTPS-Only Support: Any HTTP requests to iceportal.com will be redirected to HTTPS.
• Secure Media Links: All medialinks (links to individual assets, players, or our media galleries) provided by our APIs, reports, and exports will be delivered as HTTPS regardless of whether HTTP is requested.

We anticipate that this change will not require any action on your end provided your servers already support HTTPS (which should be the case for all but very old “legacy” web sites and services). To facilitate a smooth transition, we will be implementing HSTS on our UAT (user test environment) servers on August 23 which will allow you to test compatibility with the change and ensure a seamless experience.

Key Milestones to Expect
• Wednesday, October 4
o Links delivered by export feeds will all be changed to HTTPS (if they are not already
HTTPS).
o XML and JSON APIs will always provide links as HTTPS regardless of whether HTTP
links are requested.
• Tuesday, October 10
o All incoming HTTP requests will be redirected to HTTPS.

If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to our support team at sdssupport@shijigroup.com .

Best regards,
SDS Support Team

Dear All,

On Wednesday, November 29 at 9:00 AM Eastern time IcePortal will be adding support for the TLS 1.3 cryptographic protocol. TLS 1.3 provides a more streamlined and secure connection protocol as well as an enhanced handshake process, reducing latency and speeding up connections via fewer round trips.

The TLS 1.3 implementation will support the following ciphers:
• TLS_AES_128_GCM_SHA256
• TLS_AES_256_GCM_SHA384
• TLS_CHACHA20_POLY1305_SHA256

IcePortal will continue to support TLS 1.2 and the following ciphers:
• ECDHE-ECDSA-AES128-GCM-SHA256
• ECDHE-RSA-AES128-GCM-SHA256
• ECDHE-ECDSA-AES128-SHA256
• ECDHE-RSA-AES128-SHA256
• ECDHE-ECDSA-AES256-GCM-SHA384
• ECDHE-RSA-AES256-GCM-SHA384
• ECDHE-ECDSA-AES256-SHA384
• ECDHE-RSA-AES256-SHA384

Because we are only adding to the existing supported protocols and not removing any there should be no disruption to your service. If your servers already support TLS 1.3 they should connect to us automatically using the preferred protocol (in the order displayed above).

If you wish to check your TLS 1.3 prior to November 29 we have already deployed this update to our UAT platform.

Upcoming SSL Certificate Modification Dec 5, 2023 14:00-15:00 UTC
Dear All,

On Tuesday, December 5 at 9:00 AM Eastern time IcePortal will deploy a modification to its SSL certificate. The new certificate will have the same expiration date (October 20, 2024) but it will be smaller in size allowing for reduced latency and faster connections when rendering visual content, making API connections, etc.

This change should have no effect on your existing ability to connect to IcePortal, but if you want to test it in advance you may do so on our UAT platform.

For more information please contact sdssupport@shijigroup.com.

Best regards,
SDS Support Team
